THE INFAMOUS QUESTION

By: Briana Mills

Tumblr (edited)

Every morning before the first day of school, each high school student dreads this

upcoming question “Tell me three things about yourself ?”Instantly we shut down and

say the three dullest things. Our favorite color, food, and movie. It would seem as if you

would know yourself well enough to say at least one spectacular thing but we become

blank. So I ask this question, Why? Why do our minds become empty as if we don’t see

our reflection every day?

As if we don’t know whether we’re lactose intolerant or not. As if we don’t know

ourselves. Do we really? Do we know our elements? The substances within that make up

our personality, our dislikes, and likes. I’m not saying these things to make you dive into

an early midlife crisis, but I want you to question yourself.

Do you really know you? If not, I challenge you to find out. Find who's that reflection

you see every morning. Connect with yourself so deeply that it scares you to discover

more. Revel in this self-journey you're about to endure. Whether you cry, laugh, or eat

your way through, you’ll be able to understand yourself.

So when you’ve finished this indescribable journey I want you to answer this question.

Who are you and tell me three things about yourself?
